In those three years, we observed how Kali reacted to 3 rounds of hairloss. This can be a very devastating experience for a young child, as they cannot reason with the necessity of the treatment. The results of Kali's hair loss lead to a very weak self esteem. The treatment itself robbed a little girl of her formative years, drained her strength and energy disabling her from a normal childhood with friends and playtime. Her weakened immune system prevented much of her opportunity to socialize in most settings. Side effects continued long after treatment ended. This should never happen to a child.
Since 2003, $3,640,000 has been raised by the Hair Massacure for Edmonton and Northern Alberta. In these past years, the MacDonald family befriended many children like Kali, some of which sadly lost their battle. The Stollery saved their daughter Kali and Make-A-Wish rescued Kali (and the rest of the family) from their new “reality”. Make-A-Wish Northern Alberta sent the MacDonalds to Disney World for one week so that Kali could "Pet a Black and White Dolphin". This was magic in itself and truly helped them to understand the power of a wish. There was also magic at the Stollery..... Kali is now past her 5th year of remission!! It was through passion and sheer determination to give back that this event was created and made to be success. Lets make things better. Please join us in our fight to improve Pediatric Cancer Treatment, and fund necessary wishes that pour into Make-A- Wish Northern Alberta.

This logo was co-designed by Tammy MacDonald and Diane Scott (a fellow cancer mom and talented cartoonist). The "Proud Victim" in this logo is an actual childhood survivor diagnosed 40 + years ago. Greg was given very bleak odds of survival. He is now married with 5 boys. You will still see this image appear on our Kali Bears and t-shirts.
