Event Facts - Our 2010 event will be held on Friday, February 12th at West Edmonton Mall's Ice Palace.
- The Hair Massacure is currently working on its 8th year as a family run event.
- Since 2003, $3,640,000 has been raised by the Hair Massacure for Edmonton and Northern Alberta.
- The event was inspired by Kali MacDonald, youngest daughter of the MacDonald family. Kali was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia at age 2. Kali has been in remission for 6 years.
- The 2009 event raised over $840, 000.
- Over 400 volunteers and 25 captains support the Hair Massacure.
- Average pledge amount per participant is $720. Pledges raising over $500 receive a Kali Bear.
- Only place in the world to get a red heart shaped Dilly Bar, donated by St. Alberta Dairy Queen.
- 24 Schools participated in the 2009 Hair Massacure.
- Ongoing entertainment with local celebrities and special appearances with the Edmonton Eskimos, Edmonton Rush, and CMA winner Jessie Farrell.
- Massacure mascots include the Kali Bear and F.R.E.D - Family Run Event Dog, (our pink standard poodle).
- Funds raised are split 50/50 between the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation and Make-A-Wish Northern Alberta.
- The event reaches all ages and professions. Seniors, toddlers, teenagers, businessmen, teachers, construction workers....and even dogs!
- Many young cancer survivors shave their heads (after they've experienced hairloss – WOW!)
- Have fun with your hair, try a mohawk in January!
